Yes Isobel. I have yet to read this book - it didn't really appeal much to me when I first looked at it but I have heard several positive comments about it so must try and get hold of a copy!

It is a sort of scrapbook, but it relates to the First World War beautifully. I would not choose to read this normally, but it was Red Dot, so I gave it a try. I was glad I did .9/10 is the score.

Well done Rhianna for trying so,meting different. Taking a risk sometimes pays off! Glad you enjoyed it.
Light Horse Boy is about a boy who has an attachment to his horse, Breaker. His name is Jim, and he has a touch with horses. Jim is in the light horse infantry and he and his best mates Bob, Charlie and Chook fight for England against Germany and Turks.
When I read this book it occurred to me that the Book was like Jim's memory book and he kept all his notes from Alice his sister. It is a great book and i rate it 8/10.

I wasn't very interested in it first because of the cover. It was a Red Dot book so I figured I had to read it anyway. I really like horses so right from the very first page I liked it. Light Horse Boy is really different from the others because it starts off happy but then just gets sadder and sadder but I like the ending, when he isn't blind anymore. I think the letters to and from his sisters give a nice effect to it. I give it a 9/10!

The book I am writing about is Light Horse Boy. It is written by Dianne Wolfer. Its Genre is historical fiction.
The book takes place in the Australian Outback to the battle field, trenches and the hospital. This book is about 2 kids leaving their home in the outback to go join the Light Horse for World War 2. Sadly one of them dies and one of them is blinded for some time. It is a very heroic story about a faithful horse. The theme of the book is the experience of war.
I would recommend this book to people who like war and would like to know about from someone’s perspective (Someone who’s been in it). Thanks for reading!

Light Horse Boy is a book about a boy called Jim who joins the army because he knows that it is the right thing to do for his country. The part of the army that they join is called the Light Horse. Sadly, Jim and his friend get hurt and his freind dies. At the same time Jim is also blinded. He is then taken to the hospital boat where he heals. He also meats a woman called Rose. The scheme of the book is war and it is set in 1914-18
I would have not normally read this book if it was not in the red dot reading challenge, but overall I really enjoyed it. I rate this book 7.5/10.

Thanks for your comments Ben. I agree this is not normally a book I might have picked up to read and it has been the most recent book I have read amongst the Red Dot Reads. I was surprised at how interesting I found it. What did you think of the technique of inter- mixing letters between Jim and his sister Alice and description and factual evidence and photographs? Did you think it worked?
